Obituary of John O'Cain

John E. O'Cain, Jr. CAYCE:Memorial service for John E. O'Cain, Jr., 75, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia with Masonic Rites, 200 State St., West Columbia, SC 29169. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Jamil Shrine Center, 206 Jamil Road, Columbia, SC 29210. Mr. O'Cain died Sunday, February 13, 2011. Born in Orangeburg, SC, he was a son of the late John E. O'Cain, Sr. and Lelia McFadden O'Cain. He was a U.S. Army Reserves, 1st Sgt., retiring after 28 years of service. Mr. O'Cain also was retired from a career in the Insurance Industry. He was a graduate of Bowman High School and Newberry College; he lettered in baseball and played for the Pro Detroit Tigers Minor League. Mr. O'Cain was a member of the Cayce Masonic Lodge #384, Jamil Shrine Temple and the Royal Order of Jesters. Surviving are his sons, Daryle F. O'Cain (Mot) of Irmo and John E. O'Cain, III, and his fiancé Candi Lane of Cayce; sister, Judy Coker of Turbeville; brothers, Paul D. O'Cain of Santee and Carl B. O'Cain of Jackson, TN; one grandson, John Wesley O'Cain; one step granddaughter, Wendi Elrod; and two step great-grandchildren, Sterling and Chase Elrod.
