Obituary of George Plyler

SFC George Truman Plyler (United States Army Ret.) passed away Wednesday March 2, 2011 after a short illness. He served in the United States Army from 1945 - 1966 (Ret.). After retiring from the Army he worked for M.B. Kahn Construction Company as the superintendent for 23 years. He is the son of the late George and Maude Plyler of Jasper, AL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Plyler, his daughters, Evelyn Sanderson and Linda Lowman, his son Charles Plyler, three brothers and one sister. Surviving are his children, John Plyler of Columbia, SC, Kathy Matheny and husband, Joe Matheny of Beaufort, SC; five grandchildren, Patty Jones, Steve Edmund, Amanda Plyler-Whitley, Justin Matheny, and Linda Matheny; 3 great-grandchildren; his sister, Bonnie Plyler of Jasper, AL; and a longtime special friend, Nancy Ferguson of Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends at Greenlawn Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011 in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family requests donations to be made to "Warriors Walk (Hospice) of the Dorn VA Hospital" or "The American Cancer Society" in George?s memory.
