Obituary of Nellie Adkins

Nellie Richburg Adkins WEST COLUMBIA:Funeral service for Nellie Richburg Adkins, 90, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at First Baptist Church of West Columbia, officiated by Rev. Dr. Bill Drees and Rev. Dr. Lonnie F. Shull, Jr. Interment will follow at Lybrand Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brian Adkins, Ricky Adkins, Trey Adkins, Jeff Adkins, Lawrence Adkins, Steve Adkins, Kevin Hook and Olin Hayden, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be the Hope Winsome Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. this (TUESDAY) at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of West Columbia, P.O. Box 4898, West Columbia, SC 29171, where she was a member for 62 years. Mrs. Adkins, widow of Dwight F. Adkins, died Monday, March 7, 2011. Born June 14, 1920, in Manning, SC, she was a daughter of the late Burt and Susan Richburg. She was a faithful, loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be greatly missed. Mrs. Adkins loved cooking and once said her ministry in life was a "biscuit ministry" because she shared her cooking with neighbors, family, and friends for many years. Surviving are her daughters, Margaret Hayden (O.D.) of North, and Bonnie Hook (Tommy) of West Columbia; sons, Ray Adkins (Margie) of West Columbia and Harry Adkins (Miriam) of Cayce; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren. Mrs. Adkins was preceded in death by children, Carolyn, Earl, Dwight, Jr. and Lawrence Adkins; also sister, Naomi Richburg Adkins and daughter-in-law, Judy Reyes Adkins.
