Obituary of Jan Sigmon

Jan Maria Sigmon Columbia - A memorial service for Jan Maria Sigmon, 60, will be held at 2pm Sunday, March 27, 2011, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, officiated by Rev. Pride Carson. A reception will follow from 3:30 until 5:30 p.m. in the Activity Center of Virginia Wingard Memorial United Methodist Church, St. Andrews, 1500 Broad River Road, across from Boozer Shopping Center. Jan passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Lexington Medical Center. She was a daughter of the late Harold Sigmon and Inez Price Sigmon. Born in Hickory, NC, she moved with her family to Columbia in 1967. Jan graduated from Columbia High in 1969 and attended the University of South Carolina, majoring in art. Employed by Montessori Early Learning Center and School of the Arts, Jan also taught piano and was the food/table stylist for Southern Gourmet Catering. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and had served on the Committee for Singles Group. Jan was a board member and past president of the Robert Burns Society of the Midlands, past fundraising committee member for USC Dance, and she was on the planning committee for the Tartan Fest in Columbia. Survivors include her son, Phillip Bach Sigmon Whiteside and her two grandchildren, Phillip Anthony Gadson and Ollie Maria Whiteside. She was preceded in death by her sister, Cynthia Sigmon Sapero. Jan was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In her honor memorials may be made to SCOA Cares Foundation, P.O.
