Obituary of Henry Copeland

Henry Riggs Copeland, Jr. WEST COLUMBIA: A graveside service, with Military Honors, for Mr. Henry Riggs Copeland, Jr., 63, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Lake Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, Timmonsville, SC. Officiating will be Rev. Douglas I. Jordan. Serving as pallbearers will be Justin French, Brian French, Jacob Temples, Jessica Temples, Alex Temples, Frank Preston Copeland, III, Pringle Boyle, Jr. and Durward L. Copeland. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. this (WEDNESDAY) evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to Lake Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 6568 Oates Highway, Timmonsville, SC 29161. Mr. Copeland died Monday, April 4, 2011. Born in Orangeburg, SC, he was a son of the late Henry Riggs Copeland, Sr., and Ruby Redick Copeland. He attended Clemson University and graduated from Midlands Tech with an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Copeland was a member of First Baptist Church of Orangeburg, and was a resident of Lexington County for many years. He was retired from Telics as a computer draftsman. Mr. Copeland was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in Guam during Vietnam. He had worked on the research vessel "Golden", a geological research ship in the Bahamas. He also worked as a race official equipment manager with International Motor Sports/Associates of Tampa, FL and as a drafter with the Tamper Division, Canron Corp. of West Columbia. He was a member of SCCA, S.C. Region Sports Car Club of America, where he had previously served on the Board of Directors. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Vijaya Korrapati, Teresa, and staff of Lexington Oncology Associates, for their care and concern shown to Henry and the family. Surviving are his sisters, Redick C. Loring (Ron) of Lexington, Debra C. Temples (Jesse) of West Columbia and Janet C. Westmoreland (Tony) of Lexington; brother, Michael Forrest Copeland (Sue) of Chapin; nieces and nephews, Justin French (Karen) , Brian French, Jacob Temples, Jessica Temples, Alex Temples, Shelley Copeland, Maggie Copeland, Luke Copeland and Jenna Copeland; step-niece and nephews, Ashley Long (Gregory) and Justin Westmoreland.
