Obituary of Michael Hogan Gatti

Michael Anslem Hogan Gatti Michael Anslem Hogan Gatti, 70, of West Columbia, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Palmetto Health Foundation - Nursing Education, P.O. Box 602575, Charlotte, NC 29260-2575. The family will receive friends at their home in Quail Hollow on Saturday night from 6-9 p.m. to celebrate her life and share their memories. A Mass in her memory will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Monday, June 13th at 11:00 a.m. Born in Bedford, Virginia, Michael was the daughter of Royton Conway Hogan and Harriet Elizabeth Foster Hogan. A life-long student of nature and science, Michael graduated from the College of William and Mary with a major in Biology. She worked at the Rockefeller Institute in New York before moving to Virginia and then South Carolina to raise her two daughters with her husband, Dr. David Joseph Gatti. Michael and Dave lived in Quail Hollow in West Columbia for 36 years where they developed a cadre of dear and dedicated friends and spent happy summers at the Quail Hollow pool and Friday nights at Brookland-Cayce football games. She spent many years as a docent at Riverbanks Zoo, was an advocate for drug prevention in the elementary schools, an expert shopper, a fierce friend, a role model to her daughters, and a magnificent wife. Michael is survived by her husband Dr. David Joseph Gatti, her daughters, Gina Gatti Boulware, married to Bret Harrington Boulware, and Evan Anslem Gatti, married to Todd Alan Nicolet, her sister, Dana Hogan Trevey, and brother, James Conway Hogan. Michael passed her awe of the universe, her love of bugs and art and Riverbanks Zoo to her granddaughter, Royton Elizabeth Boulware and grandson, Foster Joseph Nicolet.
