Obituary of George Price

A funeral service celebrating the life and legacy of George Draft Price, Jr., 81, of Columbia will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2011 in Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Laverne Hancock officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Elon Baptist Church Cemetery in Hopkins, SC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at Greenlawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Elon Baptist Church, 718 Mt. Elon Church Road, Hopkins, SC 29061 in George?s memory. Mr. Price departed this earthly life on Monday, June 20, 2011. He was born on July 3, 1929 in Columbia, South Carolina to George Draft Price, Sr. and Nell Scruggs Price. George was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force (Korean Conflict). After attending the University of South Carolina (Civil Engineering) he pursued his career in the steel industry. George loved his church, Mt. Elon Baptist Church where he was a faithful member for 55 years, active in the choir, the building & grounds committee, an active deacon, Sunday school director and he was very instrumental in the structural design of the fellowship hall and sanctuary. George was active in the Horrell Hill Men?s Club, a volunteer with the American Veterans Association at the Dorn VA Hospital and a former member of the Lower Richland Lions Club. George loved traveling with his family and he always looked forward to the week of 4th of July at the beach with his family and grandchildren where they would enjoy the fireworks and celebrating George?s birthday. He also enjoyed celebrating his anniversary with his wife each year at the Beaufort Shrimp Festival. Mr. Price was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Nell ?Pinkie? Price Brooks. Those left to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Carolyn Culley Price; a daughter, Carolyn Elise ?Lisa? Price; a son, George Draft Price, III and his wife Lorri Price; four beloved grandchildren, Preston Draft Price, Christian Blake Price, Carlie Annalise Price and Dylan Michael Price; his mother-in-law, Alice G. Culley; brothers-in-law, William Brooks and Ronnie (Mary) Culley; a former sister-in-law, Cathy Simmons; a host of loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, his church family, other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
