Obituary of Johnny Chavis

Johnny Chavis, Sr. CAYCE—Funeral services for Johnny Chavis, Sr., 59, of Cayce, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Westside Holiness Church. Officiating will be Rev. Jewel Jeffcoat. Burial will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, July 2 at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Mr. Chavis, beloved husband of Gloria Chavis for 40 years, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2011. Born in Springfield, SC, he was the son of Wyman W. and Margaret Chavis. He was a lifetime area resident, a member of Westside Holiness Church and retired from W&J Heating and Air. He was kind and loving, charitable and much loved by friends, family and his community. He enjoyed fishing, the mountains, and cooking outdoors, which everyone loved. He was always putting other's concerns and interests before his own. He was a devoted husband, father, son and brother who was dear to his wife, close to his father and mother and will be greatly missed. Mama and Daddy love you and are going to miss you, and wife will always love you hon. You will always be in our hearts. Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are daughter Sabrina Stelly (Geoffrey) of Gaston; son Johnny Walter "Wally" Chavis, Jr. (Selena) of Lexington; sisters Margaret Thomas (Frank) of West Columbia, Loretta Livingston (John) of Gaston and Teresa Echerer (Scott) of Lexington; brother Wyman A. Chavis (Linda) of Charleston; and three grandchildren, Haylee Chavis, Glenn Chavis and Hanna Stelly. Special thanks from the family to the Cayce Police Department and to Westside Holiness Church.
