Obituary of Arthur Gomez

A funeral service celebrating the life and legacy of Arthur Hernandez Gomez, (U.S. Army, Ret.), 88, of Columbia will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2011 in Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with full military honors and interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the hour of the service on Monday at the Greenlawn Funeral Home. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements. SFC Gomez passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2011. He was born in El Paso, TX to Cristiano Gomez and Santos Hernandez Gomez. SFC Gomez was a two time Bronze Star Recipient and he served during WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He retired from the United States Army after 26 years of dedicated service to our country. SFC Gomez was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the CB/Radio Club. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Marguerite Gomez; a daughter, Linda M. Garcia; two sons, Lt. Col. (Ret. Marine) Arthur (Louise) Gomez, Jr. and William (Sue) Gomez; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, three nieces, three nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
