Janie McDowell Blackwell
LEXINGTON: Funeral service for Janie McDowell Blackwell, 83, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011, at Oakwood Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Lonnie Shull and Rev. Steven Gantt. The family will be remaining at the church after the service. Interment will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington.
Mrs. Blackwell, widow of Rev. Douglas Blackwell, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, July 19, 2011. Born in Inman, SC, she was a daughter of the late Claude Edgar McDowell and Cora Mae Mullins McDowell. She was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church. Mrs. Blackwell was a loving and dedicated pastor's wife, Sunday School teacher for many years and was an accomplished artist.
Surviving are her sons, Robert Blackwell (Sharon) and Phil Blackwell (Myra) all of Lexington; three grandchildren, Jake Blackwell (Anna), Jessica Blackwell and Tori Blackwell. Mrs. Blackwell was preceded in death by two brothers, Evan McDowell and Kenneth McDowell; and three sisters, Dorothy Morris, Mozelle Thompson and Marion Bird.
