Obituary of Frank Stevens

COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Frank W. Stevens, Jr. 87, of Columbia, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Officiating will be The Reverend Karen Salvo Hawkins. Burial will follow in Lybrand Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 7239 Patterson Road, Columbia, SC 29209 or Epworth Children's Home, PO Box 50466, Columbia, SC 29205. Mr. Stevens, beloved husband of Dorothy Hunter Stevens, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Dorn VA Hospital. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Frank W. Stevens and Mildred Kelley Edwards. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. Formerly of Rutland, Vermont, he was an area resident since 1945. He retired from Owens Steel Company and was the owner and operator of Stevens-Price Steel Company. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served in WWII. Surviving in addition to his beloved wife, Dorothy Hunter Stevens of Columbia; daughter, Alyce Ann Stevens Pegues (Jim) of Gilbert; sons, Charles Stevens (Julieta) of Columbia and F. David Stevens (Susan) of Isle of Palms; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A special thank you to the Dorn VA Medical Center where he received excellent and loving care.
