Obituary of Samuel Bazemore

A funeral service celebrating the life of Samuel Bazemore, Jr., 47, of Columbia will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2011 at Community C.M.E. Church, 4317 Ridgewood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29203. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday evening at Greenlawn Funeral Home. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements. Mr. Samuel Bazemore, Jr. was born on January 7, 1964 to Samuel and Nathene Daniel Bazemore, Sr. in Harlem, New York. Samuel departed this earthly life at 12:00 a.m. Thursday morning, August 11, 2011 to go home with our Lord and Savior. ?Sammy? or ?Bazemore? as he was affectionately called by family and friends graduated from Evan Hughes High School, New York City in 1983. On October 3, 1992, Samuel was united in holy matrimony to the former Vanessa Odom and was blessed with three children. Sammy enjoyed going to the park and playing games with his children. He always took pride and making sure his lawn was always immaculate. Samuel was a member of Community C.M.E. Church. Samuel was employed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center for seven years. He was a veteran of the United States Marines Corp in which he served from 1989 to 1993 during the Desert Storm War and he was a veteran of the United States Army Reserve from 1993- 2008 in which he served in the Iraq War. Samuel received numerous medals to include the Army Achievement Medal, Marine Corp Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal and many others. Sammy was predeceased by his mother, Mrs. Nathene Daniel Bazemore. Those left to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife of 18 years, Vanessa Odom Bazemore, two sons, Emmanuel and Elijah Bazemore; a daughter, Shayna Bazemore, all of Columbia, SC; his father, Samuel Bazemore, Sr., his devoted aunt, Sinclaire Fox; a brother, Angelo (Frances) Gordon; two sisters, Veronica Young and Marilyn (William) Inlaw all of New York; his father and mother-in-law, Ruben & Virginia Odom; sister-in-laws, Sabrina Odom and Lisa (Eugene) Clarkson; a brother-in-law, Ronald Odom, all of Columbia, South Carolina; a special cousin, Brenda Fox; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
