Obituary of Mary Hawkins

Mary Fogle Hawkins WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Mary Fogle Hawkins, 85, of West Columbia, will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, August 20, 2011 at West Side Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Wayne Cathey, Stephen Haynsworth and Rev. Clinton Lawyer. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Pelion. Honorary pallbearers will be the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and WMU. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia will be assisting the family. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Hawkins honor, to West Side Baptist Church Building Fund, 2100 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia, SC 29169. Mary Hawkins, widow of Johnnie J. Hawkins, Sr., passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2011. Born in Pelion, she was the daughter of the late James Cleveland Fogle and Leila Belle Gardner Fogle Wingard. She was a lifetime area resident and a member of West Side Baptist Church where she was active in the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, Mountain Movers and the WMU. She was a Girl Scout Leader for 14 years where she had a profound effect on the lives of many young women. Mary Hawkins retired after 25 years of dedicated service from Regency House Furniture. She loved the Lord and her church; she was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. Mary was a wonderful lady who touched so many people's lives with her kindness and loving nature. She will be dearly missed by all her friends and family. Surviving are her daughters, Shirley Ann Cathey (Wayne) of Rocky Ford, CO, Deborah E. Hawkins of Columbia and Cynthia H. Haynsworth ( Stephen) of Johns Island; son, Johnnie J.
