Obituary of Sadie Bass Sanders

A graveside service for Sadie Louise Bass Sanders, 87, of West Columbia, will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road Columbia, SC 29209. Pastor James Martin will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday at graveside from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service. Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Jerald, John Castles, Clif Jerald, Jason Wilson, Brandon Wilson, Matthew Wilson, A.J. Sanders, and Forrest Arnold. Mrs. Sanders passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2011. She was born December 3, 1923 in Hartsville, SC to William and Annis Bass. Mrs. Sanders married Alton John Sanders, Sr. on February 16, 1946 in Columbia, SC. In addition to raising seven children, she worked at Columbia Mills for 25 years and later retired from NCR Corp. after 13 years. She was a member of Park Street Baptist Church in Columbia. Surviving are her loving children: Barbara (Richard) Jerald, Avery Shumpert, Brenda (Tommy) Castles, Gail Sanders, Alton (Diane) Sanders, Jr., Wanda (Chris) Wilson, and Terri (Danny) Wilson; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Guy, Jackie Yates, and Patricia Glenn; brothers, Billy Bass and Johnny Bass. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and sisters, Retha Mae Griggs and Vicey Lee Thompson.
