Obituary of Robert Corbett

Robert Elliott Corbett, Jr. CAYCE—Funeral services for Robert Elliott Corbett, Jr., 89, of Cayce, will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Transfiguration Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. Alexander H. Twedt. Entombment will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to Transfiguration Lutheran Church, 1301 12th Street, Cayce, SC 29033. Mr. Corbett, beloved husband of the late Jackie Turner Cummings Corbett, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011. Born in Pelion, SC, he was the son of the late Robert Elliott Corbett, Sr. and Gertrude Knotts Corbett. He was a graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School and a member of Transfiguration Lutheran Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in WWII. Mr. Corbett retired from Sears Roebuck Company after many years of loyal service. He was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was a proud Olympic Torch Bearer for 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta, GA. Surviving are his sons, Robert E. Corbett III of Cayce and Bruce C. Corbett (Tammye) of Lexington; three wonderful grandchildren, Garrett Corbett, Chelsey Morgan and Kaitlin Patterson; two great-grandchildren, MaKenzey and Cuyler; sister, Mildred Sellers of Gaston. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Louise Doris, Maxine Gleaton, Lucille Durham and Margaret Chandler; one brother, Herbert Corbett.
