Obituary of Laurel Davis Meetze

Laurel "Lolly" Davis Meetze LEXINGTON-Laurel "Lolly" Davis Meetze, 58, died at home early on the morning of Thursday, November 24, 2011, Thanksgiving Day. For twenty years Lolly's, faith, family, and friends sustained her through the unexpected joys of brain cancer. Born in Cayce, South Carolina, on April 27, 1953, she was a 1971 graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of South Carolina in 1978. Lolly was employed by the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs as an Information Center Consultant. Following her first extensive brain surgery, Lolly left the career she loved to be at home with her husband and children. Lolly was an active member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir, the United Methodist Women, a children's Sunday School teacher, and youth group leader. Lolly's joy for life was evident in her sense of humor, riding waves at Edisto Beach during yearly family vacations, reading and journaling, singing with her family, and collecting anything related to Holstein cows. The family would like to express their gratitude for the care given by Dr. Francis P. Goldstein and his staff, Palmetto Baptist Hospice, and her dedicated caretakers, especially Ms. Sandra Freeman. Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Walker Meetze; children, Kyle Meetze (Frances) and Carrie Caldwell (Brantley); grandsons, Baylor and Cain Caldwell and Lucas Meetze; sisters, DeeDee Chewning (Richard) and Phyllis Davis. She was predeceased by her parents, Andrew P. and Grace Boylston Davis. Services to celebrate Lolly's life will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2011, at 3 o'clock at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Gilbert, with the Reverend Ken Colton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from two to four o'clock at Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington, on Saturday, November 26, 2011.
