Obituary of Pauline Jordan

CAYCE—Pauline Rivers Jordan of 925 Lafayette Avenue, Cayce died at her home February 5, 2012, after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, West Columbia, and a celebration of her life will be held at State Street Baptist Church, Cayce at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012 with burial to follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Tommy Pillow and assistant Rev. Nathan Brown. Mrs. Jordan was born August 14, 1921, the daughter of William Frederick Rivers and Nettie Hinson Rivers of Chesterfield. After graduating as salutatorian in 1939, she married John Leslie Jordan and worked in the Chesterfield County Probate Court. After moving to Columbia, she worked for Shakespeare Company where she retired after 33 years of dedicated service. She worked part-time for Parties, Etc. Catering, Inc. for 15 years co-owned by her daughter, Linda and devoted and beloved friend, Faye Holland. A loyal member of State Street Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School for 50 plus years. She was an active member of many church organizations, the Cayce Garden Club, the Order of Eastern Star, Cayce Chapter, and a life-long active member of the Lexington County Republican Party. Many fond times were spent when family and friends gathered at her home on special occasions and holiday feasts, where she was known as an expert baker and talented cook. Many of her recipes appeared in local cook books and newspapers. She was the editor of the Shakespeare Newsletter, "Fish Tales". She was known as an active, friendly, happy and loving person who touched the lives of so many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Surviving are her daughter, Linda J. Killian (Ben); son, John Frederick Jordan (Ann); beloved grandsons, Larry C. Marchant, Jr. (Jennifer), Leslie C. Marchant, and granddaughter Casey J. Hallman (Davis); six cherished great-grandchildren, Michael, Johnathan, Cannon, Landon, Marydavis and Vivian; and special friends of the family, Brenda Cole, Victoria Marchant, and Jennifer Black. Pallbearers are Ted Holland, Bobby Corbett, Mike Hughes, Don Bailey, Tim Shealy and Stewart Martin. The family would like to extend deepest appreciation to the staff of National Health Care of Lexington, third floor of Lexington Medical Center and Hospice Care of Tri County for their love, compassion, and expert care. Memorials in honor of Mrs. Jordan may be made to State Street Baptist Church, 1420 State Street, Cayce, SC 29033.
