Obituary of Avis Rose Stachura

Avis Stachura, 94, of Sumter, SC passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. She was born on December 21, 1928, at home with a midwife in Worcester, MA, daughter of the late Ovida and Eva Faucher.

Avis was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert M. Stachura; a daughter, Susan Roberts; 3 brothers, Bob, Norman, and Jack (John) Faucher; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She is survived by one son, Bobby Stachura, and one daughter, Lynda J. Dwyer. Avis was a resident of SC for over 60 years.

Avis started her adventure in life as a Military wife traveling to outreach places such as Alaska when it was still a territory. She could fish, hunt, and skin a rabbit with the best of them. She has been referred to as a 4-foot 8-inch hellion. She was loved and cherished by so many.

She would have liked to say goodbye to each and every one of you, but time pressed, and she had to move on.

A service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, 1:00pm at Thompson Funeral Home 845 Leesburg Road Columbia, SC 29209. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. A burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
