Obituary of Anita W. McCurdy

Anita W. McCurdy, 96, went home to be with the Lord on September 14, 2023.

Anita was born in Plainfield, New Jersey on October 3, 1926; the only child to Viola and Harry Weiss.  She is preceded in death by the love of her life, William McCurdy.  They met while working together at Lyons Veterans Hospital. They soon were married in June of 1955 and began a family. 

Bill and Anita had four children, Sharon Harris (Ron Menchinger), Scott McCurdy (Reena’), Lynn McCurdy (deceased), Joan Thompson (John); three grandchildren, Ashlyn Evans, Grayson Thompson, and Devon Thompson; and one step-granddaughter, Beth Dixon.

Anita was a wonderful mother. She stayed busy as a Sunday School teacher and a Girl Scout Leader. Bill and Anita were very active square and round dancers.  After Bill retired, they were able to enjoy a life of traveling and gardening. She loved to cook and entertain for her family and friends. Anita's faith was a big part of who she was. She was an active member of her church-Petersen Presbyterian, always serving the community in many ways. She also enjoyed volunteering and serving the community delivering Meals on Wheels. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Palmettos of Parklane for taking such good care of her during her 5 year stay.  The family would also like to thank the many staff of Prisma Health that offered exceptional care and comfort to Anita this last week.

Visitation will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 19th. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am; with graveside burial immediately following 12 noon at Woodridge Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 138 Corley Mill Road Lexington, SC 29072.
