Obituary of Emma Josephine Atchison

Graveside services for Emma Josephine Atchison of Lexington, South Carolina, will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 11am, at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Campground Cemetery, 2500 N Highway 41, Fort Valley, Georgia, 31030. Visitation will be from 10am to 11am at the adjoining chapel prior to service.

Ms. Atchison passed away peacefully on September 9, 2023.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Frank Webb Atchison Sr. and Ida Rain Atchison. She retired from the United States Treasury Department in 1982.

Prior to her death, Emma was the last living child of Frank Sr. and Ida. She was predeceased by her four brothers, Frank W. Atchison Jr. (Freddie), James E. Atchison (Jean), John D. Atchison, L. Thomas Atchison, and four sisters, Mary Hollingsworth (Aubrey), Margaret Wood, Mattie Owens (John), and Hazel Bonner (Tom). She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Jane Atchison of Irondale, Alabama, Debbie Atchison of Winter Haven, Florida, and dearly beloved nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Emma’s caregivers who showed her love and compassion in her final days.
