Obituary of Shirley Jean Swanson

Shirley Jean Swanson, age 82, passed away peacefully August 29, 2023.  She was born February 6, 1941, in Joanna, South Carolina as the first-born of identical twins to William Mendel and Ruby Johnson Sharpe.

Shirley graduated from University High School.  She retired from S.C. DHEC working in the Vital Records Department.  Shirley was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed activities in WELCA, social ministries, and bible study.  Shirley was a devoted and faithful Christian.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed many games of Bridge.

"Shelley" and "Sha" lived together for 21 years.

Shirley had a grateful heart and appreciated the many acts of compassion and kindness shown to her recently and these past few years during her declining health.  She demonstrated a humble spirit along with a quiet and gentle soul.  She deeply loved her family and was a blessing to them. 

Surviving are her three sons, Jimmy (Lynn) Asbill, Jerry (Connie) Asbill, and David Asbill; one sister, Sharon Guest; numerous nephews, nieces, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; and special cousin, Katie Bradley.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 2nd from 5 to 7 pm at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington.  The service will be held Sunday, September 3rd at 1 pm at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, presided by Pastor John Trump.  Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
