Obituary of Roosevelt McLamore, Sr.

Roosevelt McLamore, Sr., 86, of Columbia, SC, entered into eternal rest on August 23, 2023, at Prisma Health-Richland Hospital, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy. He was born on December 24, 1936, in Wedgefield, South Carolina, to the late Simon McLemore, Sr. and Mell Goodwin McLemore. 

Roosevelt was joined in holy matrimony to Eunice Gunter. This union was blessed with 10 loving children and three generations of grandchildren.

Roosevelt, affectionately known to friends and family as “Buzzy” or “Mr. Mac”, was educated in the public schools of Richland County. He was a dedicated worker of Richland County Public Works Department for 23 years.

Roosevelt was a loving, caring husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his yard, fishing and caring for his wife, Eunice McLamore, of 69 years.

He possessed an exceptional ability to accurately recall names of people, places and events that occurred in his life since the very early days of his existence. He will be sorely missed as the undisputable family historian.

He is preceded in death by brothers, John McLemore, James McLemore, Simon McLemore, Jr. and Ulysses McLemore; sister, Dorothy Mae Bowers; daughters, Nancy McLamore-Johnson, Louise McLamore; a son, Ronnie McLamore; a special son in law, Douglas Johnson, Sr.; grandsons, Timothy McLamore and Christopher McLamore.

Roosevelt is survived by his wife, Eunice Lee McLamore, of the home; sons, Rommie Lee McLamore, Roosevelt McLamore, Jr., Willie James McLamore (Linda) of Long Beach, California, Reginald McLemore, Bruce McLamore (Carlene), and Keith McLamore, all of Columbia, South Carolina; daughters, Mary McLamore Livingston (Jimmy) and Angela Ruff, all of Columbia, South Carolina; sisters, Patricia Brown (Lee) of Fort Worth, TX, Vermell McLemore and Sarah Garland of Columbia, SC; 21 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and other loving, devoted relatives and friends, all of who will miss him immensely.
