Obituary of Anselma A. Douglas
Anselma A. Douglas, 87, of Columbia, SC passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. She was born in Vrutice, Czechia on May 30, 1936.
Anselma met the love of her life, Samuel, while he was stationed in West Germany, serving in the United States Air Force. They married in 1957 in the town of Zweibrucken.
Anselma dedicated herself to being a homemaker and mother. While Samuel was stationed in Vietnam, and later in Thailand, she raised their two sons on her own. She later received a “Certificate of Appreciation” upon her husband’s retirement noting “her own unselfish, faithful, and devoted service. Her unfailing support and understanding helped to make possible her husband’s lasting contribution to the Nation.”
Anselma was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years. She is survived by her two sons, David Douglas of New York City, and Raimund Douglas of Glen Burnie, Maryland. She is also survived by her grandchild, Mariah Grose; son-in-law, Jason Grose; and great-grandchildren, Waylon, Paeslie, and Kamden.
Services for Anselma will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023. Family will visit with friends at 10:00 a.m. in Thompson Funeral Home, Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd. Columbia, SC. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Serenity Gardens.
