Carol Higgins

Obituary of Carol Lucretia Higgins

Carol L. Higgins, born on October 15, 1941 to Carroll and Beatrice Welch, peacefully returned to her parents in Heaven on August 3, 2023.  A long standing member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, our mother took every opportunity volunteering her services. Our Mom loved taking care of the church blueberry bushes and participating in the Bishop Storehouse.  At church she enjoyed playing the piano, singing in choir, and she held various leadership positions in Primary, Young Women's, Relief Society, and the LDS Temple.

Mom was a constant in the lives of many more as she balanced parenting alongside managing a family business and caring for her four children. While working additional full-time jobs our amazing mother signed on at Newberry Vocational School to earn her GED. After attaining her nursing diploma from NVS she began classes at the University of South Carolina. She is remembered by many as a caring nurse who had perfect attendance and never shied signing on for extra shifts. She served patients at Newberry Hospital, SC State Hospital and Richland Memorial before becoming one of the first travel nurses in the United States.

Our mother enjoyed fishing, swimming, dancing, playing board games, and watching westerns. She was an avid supporter of her alma mater and loved to cheer loudly for the USC Gamecocks every football season. Nana adored all fifteen of her grand-children, her five great-grands, and loved to see pictures of how well they were thriving.

She is survived by her sisters Tony Burrows of Columbia and Helen Spires of Cayce; eldest daughter Sara Angela Ferguson and her husband James of Orlando, FL, grandson Sinkler Adams (deceased), grandson James Joseph Ferguson, great granddaughter Kylee, and granddaughter Jessica Ashley Ferguson; second daughter Pam Coric of Jacksonville, FL, and grandson Paul Coric (Kaleigh); third daughter Ce Lena Callicotte and her husband Marvin of Aiken, SC, grandson Seth Callicotte, and granddaughter Arielle Callicotte; son Charles Logan Higgins, Jr. and his wife Joanna of Prosperity, SC, granddaughter Brianna Chicoine Higgins (Justin), great grandson Brayden, great granddaughter Brylee, grandson Charles Logan Higgins III, grandson Andrew Paul Higgins and his wife Kaylee, great grandson Daxton, grandson Solomon Austin Higgins (Montana), granddaughter Maryanna Noel Higgins, grandson Patrick Cantrelle Higgins, grandson Landon Emery Higgins, granddaughter Adrianna Adele Higgins, and granddaughter Raeanna Illyse Higgins.
