Margaret Elizabeth McAlhany, 68, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away July 30, 2023, at her home in Columbia, South Carolina. She was born on January 18, 1955, in Charleston, South Carolina to the late Thomas and Doris Ann (Noblitt) McAlhany.
Margaret is survived by her sister, Deborah McAlhany; brother, Tom McAlhany; sister-in-law, Beth McAlhany; nephew, Joe McAlhany; niece, Jen McAlhany Barry (Philip); and great nephews, Weston and Ellis Barry. She is also survived by her oldest and dearest friends/sisters, Barbara Slice, Linda Stewart, and Viola Brown.
Margaret, who was known as Peggy, graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1977. Following her graduation, she taught elementary school for 30 years in Sumter. Upon retirement, Peggy loved taking care of her plants, growing peppers and tomatoes in the summer, reading numerous novels and magazines, keeping up with the news, and hosting game night with her dearest friends. She enjoyed creating new recipes and was widely renowned as the best cook we have ever known. Peggy caused more salivation than Pavlov's dogs by posting photos of her sumptuous, southern gourmet creations made from the heart.
Peggy had an amazing sense of humor, highlighted by her clever and dry wit that kept her family and friends laughing. Peggy had a joyous heart and was a delight to be around. She had a generous and loving soul, unselfish with her time and talents. Peggy will be missed by those she loved, and those that loved her. She left a void that truly cannot be filled.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by the family a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the charity of one's choice.
