Obituary of Richard Lee Snelling, Jr.

Richard Lee Snelling, Jr, 51, husband of Crystal Palmer Snelling, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023, in the comfort of his loved ones.

Born on August 20, 1971, in Columbia, SC, he was a son of the late Richard Lee Snelling, Sr. and Mary Jane Snelling. Mr. Snelling was a beloved member of the Gilbert America community and had a tremendous influence on countless young peoples’ lives. With his two plus decades of coaching experience, the impact on his community can be felt by the social media posts seen in the recent days.

He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Crystal, of 31 years; his four children, Rick (Devyn), Nick (Rachel), Anslee, Landon; three precious grandchildren, Ellie, Winston and Addie; his mother, Mary Jane; brother, Trey (Karen); sister, Crystal; mother-in-law, Edna; father-in-law, Dickie; sister-in-law, Jennifer (Larry); brother-in-law, Andy (Dana); sister-in-law, Kim (Dan); and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington.
