Obituary of Michael Powers, Sr.

Michael D. Powers, Sr., 84, of Columbia, died Thursday July 6, 2023. The son of Dewey W. and Merena Springs Powers, he grew up in rural Florence County, South Carolina. 

After moving to Columbia, he worked as a draftsman before becoming a licensed mechanical contractor. Beginning in 1983 and into the early 2000’s, he was the owner and president of Powers Mechanical Contractors in Columbia. After closing his business, he worked for Seibels Insurance in Columbia, as their Physical Plant Manager until he retired. 

Michael was predeceased by his wife, Frances B. Powers and son, Michael “Dana” Powers. He is survived by his daughter, Carmen Powers (Scott Dollens) of Chapin SC; son, Kelly Powers of Columbia; grandchildren, Whitney Boul and Erica Edwards of Florida,  Elizabeth Jones and Connor and Lila Powers of Lexington; and a brood of great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Thompson Funeral Home on Leesburg Rd. He will be laid to rest alongside his loving wife in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
