Obituary of Karen Reeves

Karen “Sue” Reeves was born on October 23, 1952. She gained her wings on July 3, 2023.

Karen sang soprano in the church choir, she had a natural gift for singing. She was also an amazing cook who could make anything out of basic ingredients. She sewed and made her own clothing as well. Karen loved her pets and always welcomed cats and dogs into her home. She was a dedicated Carolina Gamecock fan. So much so, that she even kept a lucky towel on hand whenever the Gamecocks played. But most of all, she was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend, who always helped out others who were in need.  

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Irmagard “Edith" Melton; aunt, Irene Greer; and cousins, Oliver Brown and Patricia Edmonds. Surviving is her husband, William Reeves; son, David “Scott” Close; daughter, Sara Reeves; sisters, Betty Ann (Shayne) DeValinger and Linda Melton; cousin, Iris Whisnant; and her nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 10:00 at Thompson Funeral Home, Columbia, SC.  The funeral service will be at 11:00 and she will be interred at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia, SC.
