Obituary of George Hugh Brown, Jr.

George Hugh Brown, Jr., of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away June 16, 2023, the day before his 90^th birthday. George was born June 17, 1933 to parents George Hugh Brown, Sr. and Emma Brown in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Whiting, Indiana.

 In 1951, George graduated from Whiting High School, and he always spoke highly about his life in Whiting. He joined the US Marines after high school, served as a Lieutenant, and was a graduate of St. Joseph’s College in Indiana. In 1955, George married Joan D. Brown and they were blessed with four sons, living in their family home in Munster, Indiana. In the 1980’s, George and his wife Joan, moved from Munster, Indiana to Columbia, South Carolina, where George worked as Purchasing Manager at Owen Electric Steel Co. until his retirement. George loved and was well read in history and the Civil War. He was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church for many years.

George is predeceased in death by loving parents, George, Sr. and Emma Brown; wife, Joan D. Brown; and son, Terrence Brown. He is survived by three sons, Robert and wife Diane, David, Daniel and wife Janet; granddaughter, Valerie and husband Tyler Petersen; and great grandchildren.
