Obituary of Robert C. Davis
Robert Cary Davis, son of Charles F. and Elizabeth G. Davis, was born in Columbia, SC, November 23, 1948. He attended Heathwood Hall and Carlisle Military Academy, and earned the GED and numerous certifications that reflect the wide range of his interests. He thrived in nature, appreciated the arts, and loved his family.
Cary grew up in Eastminster Presbyterian Church where he joined the Boy Scouts and discovered outdoor adventures and earned badges. They hiked the Appalachian Trail in three states and attended jamborees. He heard stories of his ancestors from the grannies, who had the right sort of records for membership in the Cincinnati Society. Cary liked to dance, had an ear for opera, appreciated British comedy, and collected iconic lighthouses. He took care of his grandmother and mother during their later years.
Cary thrived on travel – visited historic sites from Florida to Canada, camped with his family to Yellowstone Park and the West Coast, and cruised the Caribbean and the Northwest Passage. Favorite land trips were a solo drive to San Francisco and train rides to Denali and to Paris via the Chunnel from London.
Cary died in Burlington, NC June 19, 2023, predeceased by his parents, brother C. Fred Davis, Jr., and a niece Melanie Citty. Surviving are his sister Sandra Davis Moulton and husband Bob, a niece Paula D. Hartsock and husband Mike, nephews Michael D. Moulton and Mark Davis and wife Alyssa. Also grand-nieces Dasha Hartsock and Isobella Moulton, grand-nephews Cullen Fewell and Garrett and Will Hartsock, cousins John Bigham and Reid Hearn III of Columbia, and many Goodale cousins.
Funeral Service is June 23, 20023 at Thompson Funeral Home-Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3200 Trenholm Rd. Columbia, SC 29204 and AuthoraCare, 914 Chapel Hill Rd. Burlington, NC 27215.
