Obituary of John C. Holden
John C. Holden, 74, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away June 8, 2023, at Prisma Health Richland Columbia, South Carolina. He was born on November 8, 1948, in Lake City, Minnesota to the late John and Eleanor (Madison) Holden.
John grew up in Lake City, graduating in 1967 from Lincoln High School. He was known by everyone as a wonderful husband, a hard worker and a proud Retired Army Veteran. During His 22-year military career, he was called to serve worldwide including Germany and Korea. While John was stationed in Korea, he met and married the love of his life Kum Sun (Kim). They shared 48 wonderful years together. He and his wife settled in Columbia SC until his passing. John was a dedicated worker and supervisor, always giving the best of what he had to accomplish any and all tasks he was given. When he was not working, John most enjoyed spending time with his family. Times with his Wife Kum were precious and treasured. He also was the proud "pet Dad" to his dogs Podgey and Yoki. He had a wonderful voice and would share his singing talents in his church choir. John especially enjoyed spending time outdoors in nature. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and just being out in the woods.
John is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Kum Sun (Kim) Holden; one sister, Doris Strom of Redwing, MN. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews to treasure his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Eleanor (Madison) Holden; two sisters, Arleen Mathis, Colleen Bahlman; a brother, Thomas Holden; and a nephew, Robert Cox that was raised as a brother to John.
The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM. A Committal Service will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229 at 10:00AM with full US Army military honors to be rendered. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
