Obituary of Gilbert Lee Snyder

Gilbert “Gil” Lee Snyder passed away on May 25, 2023, in Hopkins, SC. He was 66 years old. Gil was born the oldest of three children to Mrs. Donna O’Connell (Snyder) and the late Mr. Murl Snyder, in Plainwell, Michigan.

Gil was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Kathi, of 42 years. He is also survived by his three children: Page, Shaa, and Sonya (Erik); his five grandchildren: Katrina (Caleb), Luke (Tanner), Jeremy (Nadia), MacKenzie, and Gabriella; and two great grandsons: Damon and Gabriel III. Gil is remembered by his extended family still residing in Michigan with whom he stayed in contact.

Gil served with distinction in the U.S. Army for 16 years. He received an Honorable Discharged in 1992 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served at various Army posts during his career, including Fort Riley, Kansas; Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center, Aurora, Colorado; Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Korea; Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort McClellan, Alabama; Fort Greeley, Alaska; and Fort Polk, Louisiana. He also served with the Army Reserve.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, landscaping, gardening, playing cards, computer games, and going to casinos.

Celebration of Life will be held at 113 Fox Run Drive, Hopkins, SC 29061 from 12pm – 2pm on Tuesday, June 6th. Gil will be interred in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 3pm on Tuesday, June 6th.
