Obituary of Gurnie Lee Bell

Columbia, SC- Gurnie Lee Bell, 73, of Columbia, SC died unexpectedly May 5, 2023, at his home.

He was born June 16, 1949, in Dunn, NC, the Son of Vular Jones.

Gurnie graduated from Four Oaks High School June 3, 1968.  Following high school, he joined the United States Army and served from 1969-1975 which also included a tour in Vietnam from September 1969 - August 1970 and earned him The Army Commendation Metal.  He was a proud MP and served his Country well.  He was honorably discharged in April 1975.  He then attended Midlands Technical College where he earned his Associates Degree in Public Service, May 29, 1981.  He joined the Richland County Deputy Sheriffs Office on August 2, 1975 and proudly served the Richland County Community until his Retirement June 30, 1999.  He left with many awards and as a Master Deputy. 

He was a man that enjoyed the outside, music, animals especially dogs, time with his family and friends, and his love for God.   

He left behind lots of family and friends who love and miss him dearly.
