Obituary of Jeanette B. Jennings

Jeanette B. Jennings went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 17, 2023.

Mrs. Jeanette was born on January 31, 1944, in Barnwell, SC. She was the daughter of the late Gertrude Black. She was educated in the school system of Barnwell County and graduated from Columbia High School.

In January 1961, she met the love of her life Bill Jennings through a blind date at church. She and Bill were married on August 30, 1962. This union was blessed with two children, Kim and William.

Jeanette worked as an accounting specialist at the University of South Carolina for over thirty years. She then retired to spend time with those she loved most her loving family. Jeanette was an avid walker who was always on the go but was never too busy to enjoy a relaxing evening in her backyard to watch the deer from Sesquicentennial Park feed. Her favorite vacation place was at the beach and visiting lighthouses. She additionally loved helping children reach their reading goals at Satchelford Elementary School.

Jeanette was a proud and faithful member of Long Creek Church of Christ in Columbia, SC, where she diligently served in any capacity needed. She was one of the founding members and taught Sunday school for over 25 years. In her later years, Jeanette and her Husband Bill took great pride in working with the Church of Christ ministry at Fort Jackson, where they weekly ministered to recruits and were instrumental in baptizing hundreds into Christ. She took great pride in seeing others give their life to Christ. She loved the Lord and doing his work.

On April 17, 2023, at approximately 10 pm, Jeanette Jennings gracefully departed this life in her home surrounded by her loving family. Her mother, Gertrude Black, and her brother Olin Black, preceded her in death. Jeanette is survived by her Husband of 60 years, Bill; her daughter Kim (Randy); son William (Deena), both of Columbia SC; grandson Trace; Siblings Ruby Rease and Julian Black; her four-legged grandchildren Caesar and Buddy; as well as countless special friends to always cherish precious memories of her.

Funeral services will be held at 12 pm on Friday, April 21, at Thompson Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29207. Visitation and viewing will be 1 hour before the funeral service from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm. Following the services, the family will receive friends at their residence in Columbia, SC.
