Joe was an absolutely delightful person. He was a second father to me. We shared many wonderful days together fishing, fixing stuff, building things, and just hanging out. He loved a roaring bonfire and we shard many.
He read every Louis L'Amour western novel ever written. He loved American Westerns. We called each other Monsieur (pronounced Mon-Suer) after a character in a John Wayne movie. He loved Star Treck as well.
He could build or fix almost anything.
He was well known for his Flea Market treasure finds. Whatever he brought home from the Flea Market he would usually take it apart and study how to fix it as he put it back together. He repaired thousands of fishing reels.
He was a true Vietnam War hero and served his adopted country honorably and sacrificially for 20 years. He never lost a soldier under his command in combat and should be credited with saving the life of each soldier that ever served under his leadership.
I loved him dearly and miss him terribly.
