Obituary of Sally Diane Wise

Sally Diane Addy Wise, 89, of West Columbia came to eternal rest on February 21, 2023. She was embraced in love by her family and friends during her brief illness. Born August 11, 1933, to Roland McDuffie & Mary Lucille Sox Addy. She grew up on Center Street in West Columbia, attended Brookland Grammar and was a graduate of Brookland Cayce High School class of 1954.  In her high school days, she was crowned the West Columbia May Queen.

Diane found much joy in life and her laughter was one of her greatest attributes.  She will be remembered fondly as an easy going and quiet lady. She had a humorous side as big as her heart.  She is known for her practical jokes that left many laughing hysterically.

Diane was a life member of Mount Tabor Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time with her church family and participated in many church activities.

Diane is predeceased by her husband, Elbert Roosevelt Wise from Pelion, SC.  They eloped in 1953 and shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. Diane is also predeceased by son, John Carroll Wise; parents Mary Lucille Sox & Roland McDuffie Addy; brother and sister in law Roland Durham & Leatrice Addy and their children, Roland Durham Addy, Jr. and Sherry Jones; and sisters and brothers in law Mary Nelda & Leo Raymond Blight and their son, Leo Raymond Blight, Jr. and his daughter, Mari Christine Blight; and Beverly Christine & Charles Edward Corley; maternal grandparents, Sallie Eliza Hook & George Jefferson Sox; paternal Grandparents Christina Bushardt & Walter Chapman Addy; maternal aunts Ella Vera Sox & Lindy White, Evelyn Eliza Sox and many more uncles, aunts and cousins.

Diane is survived by her sons and daughters in law Bobby Edward & Betty Wise, Roland David & Cindy Wise, Jean Wise; and a daughter and son in law Sally Christine & Wolfgang Kleber.

She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren Kellie Kleber and children Amaya, Carter, and Natalie; Katherine & Kenneth Sulser and their children Peryn, Paelyn, and Kole; Kara Gunter & Tom Dempster; Kirk & Serena Gunter; Scott & Kerry Wise and Bryson; Jennifer & Benji Berry and Connor; Rachel Wise; Rebecca Wise; Angela & Andrew Kinard and children Hailey, Olivia, Aria; Lisa Rimer and children Ethan, Bryan, Mason, and Kinsley.  She shared a binding love with her grandchildren, and they called her Grandma or Granny, and to the most recent loves of her life, her great grands, she was known as “Di”. She enjoyed nothing more than holding all the babies and kissing their sweet little necks.

Diane and Nelda inherited The Tackle Shop in West Columbia after the passing of their uncle, Lindy White. They later sold the store and that is when Diane, Nelda and Beverly found their love of bowling. They were members of the Saints and Sinners bowling team and the Church League at Park Triangle Bowling Lanes.

Later, she worked several years at Metro Press in Cayce, SC before she returned to her most desired role of Grandmother.

The family would like to thank the Pastors, staff, congregation, and the Youth of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church for all the support during her lifetime.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Diane’s memory to Mt. Tabor are welcome.

The family extends a special thank you for many years of devotion and service to Sunset Pharmacy in West Columbia and Dr. Gil Rogers and his staff at Lexington Internal Medicine.

Officiated by Reverends Wade Roof and Rus Stilwell with music by Kevin Davis, the Funeral services will be 3pm on February 23rd at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, West Columbia, SC with interment at the Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Delree Street, West Columbia.  Visitation will be 6-8pm on February 22nd at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington, SC.
