Obituary of Richard Verne Reher

Richard Verne “Rick” Reher, 64, of Gaston, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on January 23, 2023.

Born July 31, 1958, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, he was the son of the late Clayton and Ila Mae Varah Reher. Rick enlisted in the United States Navy and served one tour of duty. Rick was employed with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control as a systems analyst where he recently retired. He enjoyed hobbies of shooting pool and riding his motorcycle. Rick was of the Baptist Faith.

Rick is survived by a daughter, Aubrey A. Reher of Gaston; two sons, Joshua C.W. Reher of Lexington and Phillip M. Horton; three sisters, Cathi Gullette of Aiken, Terri McPherson of Colorado Springs, CO and Mary Heller (Gary) of Washington State; a brother, Barry Reher (Susan) of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren, Allison Marie Askins of Pelion, Kailey Jade Sharpe and Toby Cole Sharpe both of Gaston and Caroline Mae Winter of Chapin. Rick was also survived by his best friend, who he considered a brother, Nasser Sartip of Aiken. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Richard Philip Reher.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00pm, Wednesday, February 8th at Thompson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
