Obituary of Sandra Culclasure Dodd

Sandra Culclasure Dodd passed away at home on January 18th, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born to the late Rudolph Paul Culclasure and Lula Mae Kirkland Culclasure Goodwin, in Columbia, SC. Sandra is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, William W. Dodd, Jr. and her sister, Paula Goff.

Sandra is survived by her children, Angie Dodd (James “Mike”) Rabon, Laura Dodd (Frank) Hastings, Julie Dodd (Guy) McWilliams; her grandchildren, Kathryn Dodd (Daniel) Mooney, Savannah McWilliams, Jonathan (Sarah) Hastings, and Zachary Hastings; as well as her great-grandson, Isaiah Hastings and her great-granddaughter, Phoebe Hastings.

Sandra touched the lives of absolutely everyone she ever met and lived an admirable life fully dedicated to her family, community, and God. Sandra graduated as the valedictorian from Olympia High School in 1957, and subsequently continued her education at the University of South Carolina, achieving both a bachelor’s degree and eventually a master’s degree. Sandra was very proud of her long career at Airport High School, teaching biology and then subsequently becoming a guidance counselor for over twenty-five years. She was equally proud of her service to the community, volunteering for various causes such as God’s Helping Hands and Families Helping Families. However, one of her most proud causes was being a volunteer at Lexington Medical Center, in which she received an award for over five-thousand hours of service and sat on the board for the spiritual care community, also known at the Hope Council. Her dedicated service at Lexington Medical Center culminated in a “Community Volunteer of the Year” award that she received in 2016 and humbly accepted. She was a faithful choir member at Southside Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist church as well, teaching Sunday School at Southside Baptist Church throughout the years. Sandra proudly volunteered to teach English in China on three separate occasions and bible school in Alaksa over several years. She was also a founding member on the committee for the Airport Educational Foundation and served as a Poll Manager at the Westover Acres precinct.
