Obituary of Genevieve Brandel

Genevieve Baxter Brandel, 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 21, 2022, at VHC Health in Arlington, VA. Genevieve was a long time resident of Columbia, SC where she raised her family. Genevieve, wife of the late Edsel “Ed” Brandel and daughter of the late Augustus Baxter and Albertine Feldt Baxter, was born August 28, 1929 in Modena, NY. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with honors and retired as an instructor from Midlands Technical College. 

 

Genevieve is survived by son, Matthew Brandel (Shelley); daughter, Margaret Brandel; grandchildren; Brooke Brandel Hollingsworth (Toby) and Drew Brandel; great grandchildren, Harper Hollingsworth and Lorelei Hollingsworth; nieces, Betty Ress White (George) and Pamela Baxter Spencer (Randy); nephews, James A. Ress (Connie), Thomas A. Ress (Paula), and Donald W. Baxter, Jr.; great nieces, Christine White, Logan Ress Smith, Erin Ress Travers, Taylor Spencer; great nephews, Ginn White (Katie), Cooper Ress, Alan Ress, Drew Spencer; great-great Niece, Lydia White; great-great nephews, Garrett White, Baxter Kopp, and Marshall Rikard. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Willian Edsel (Ed) Brandel; devoted sister, Oleida (Lee) Ress; brother-in-law, James A. Ress; brother, Donald W. Baxter, Sr.; sister-in-law, Essie T. Baxter; great-great niece, Megan Rikard. 

 

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Mt. Horeb UMC, Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 11:00am, with a visitation to follow at 12noon.  There will be a private graveside service for family only at 2:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
