Obituary of Mary Evelyn Phillips Williams

Mary Evelyn Phillips Williams, our loving mother, passed away peacefully at home on October 6th, 2022. A private family burial will take place on Saturday, October 8th at 3:00 p.m. The family will greet friends on Sunday, October 9th from 2:00-2:45 pm with a celebration of life service to follow at Westside Baptist Church.

Mary was born October 28th, 1931 to the late Leroy and Belva Phillips. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Edward T. Williams Sr. Together they created and operated Columbia Screen and Awning Company for 50 years. Mary attended the Will Lou Gray Opportunity School to further her education and later served on the board to support her community. She is survived by her children, Tommie Williams, Patti Sims (David), Patsy Watts (Clint), and Elizabeth Williams; six grandsons, Chad Williams (Kayla), Tyler Williams, Kyle Watts (Stephanie), Jackson Watts, Griff Sims (Casi), and Garrett Sims; one granddaughter, McKenzie Watts; and five great-grandchildren, Kalli, Cam, Lilly, Luke, and Liam. Mary was a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed spending time with family. She will be remembered for her kind and giving spirit and will be greatly missed by friends and family. 

Mom was a devoted member of Westside Baptist church for 68 years where she taught adult and children’s Sunday school classes. She served on many church committees throughout her years at Westside. She loved her church and its members. Mary remained very active in the church until her health prevented her from doing so. 

Our family is grateful for the loving care extended to our mom by ‘Right at Home,' especially by caregiver, Angelia Plowden. We would also like to thank Prisma Heart Health and Prisma Hospice Providers for their wonderful care and support throughout this journey.
