Obituary of Sarah Franklin May

Sarah Franklin May passed away peacefully at home on October 1st, 2022. Born March 14th, 1957 in Norfolk, Virginia to Billy Alexander May and Nathalie Dodson May.

She was the third born of four children. After moving from Norfolk to Miami, Sarah and her family settled in Columbia, SC. It was there where she found her love of cooking and attended Johnson and Wales. During her working years, Sarah worked in food services, primarily as a caterer. In addition to cooking, she had a love and talent for needlepoint. This was a talent she shared with her mother who owned a needlepoint shop in Columbia. She was a warm and caring soul who had a heart for animals. 

Sarah was predeceased by her parents; sister, Susan Dodson May; and her brother, Reed Alexander May. She is survived by her brother, John Berry May of Columbia; her nieces, Victoria Marion May of Philadelphia, PA, and Katherine Alexandra May of Wilmington, NC. She is also survived by her longtime partner, Frank Varn; and his grandson, Aaron whom she helped raise and loved deeply. She is also survived by several cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, October 15th, 2022 at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
