Obituary of William Mattson

William “Bill” Mattson of West Columbia, South Carolina, passed away suddenly and peacefully on September 25, 2022 at the age of 85. In addition to being a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather and dear friend to many, he also cherished his life as a devout Christian and patriot.   

Born in Woburn, Massachusetts and enlisting after high school, Bill proudly served in the United States Air Force for 20 years where he received several medals of commendation. He then worked for Michelin Tire Company until his retirement.  He was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of West Columbia, the Pineview Ruritan Club and Tri County Leisure Center. 

Always ready to help others, give his support, or provide a laugh, Bill will be dearly missed by so many. He is predeceased by his dear parents, Hilding and Miriam Mattson; his brother Frederick Mattson, sister-in-law Ingrid Mattson and brother-in-law John Hegney of England. He is survived by his wife, Jean of 61 years, sons Bryan and Paul, three grandchildren and his nieces, nephews and cousins.
