My condolences and prayers to the family. It was by God's design that I stumbled upon this sad news. I was under the mentorship of Pastor Griggs at the Celebration Worship Center many, many years ago. It will always be one of my favorite worship experiences, as he and Mrs. Becky Griggs diligently forged forth in an attempt to embrace all of God's creation. I remember coming to the church as a worn out worship leader, who just wanted to sit and hear the word. On my first visit, Pastor Griggs walked up the aisle and, with a wisdom that only God could have given, he said "You are a worshipper and you are supposed to be on this team". How could I refuse the command of the Lord? What an awesome team it turned out to be! It was a pleasure to serve. I shall never forget a story Pastor Griggs shared about an encounter with a bear. I was on the edge of my seat as he explained the fear that "gripped him", as he heard the bear's breathing and viewed his long claws and teeth. He explained how he was about to "faint from fear"..."until he realized that the bear was in a cage". We burst out in laughter as we realized he had told the best joke ever...and that he had never been "in danger". That spoke much of his character. He was humorous and relatable, yet, a serious and passionate minister of God's word. Eventhough we eventually lost touch, I always thought about him frequently. My prayers are lifted for the strength and comfort of this family during this time of loss.

Brother Russ was the most congenial and loving, always with a smile, ready to listen and participate!
When we visited Russ and Becky in Lexington with Bev, the four of us, Russ, Bev, Neil and Enda decided to play a round of golf at a course that had been somewhat damaged by a recent hurricane. All the guys were eager to play their best, hit the ball the furthest to get it in the hole the fastest!
We all teed off! The guys went first! Each of them hit their ball a great distance in a different direction into bush! So off they went to look for their balls while Enda, a novice, just kept hitting her balls in short distances toward the green while the brothers were searching for their balls.
We had the best time after the first tee as the competition effect had worn off, laughing all the way home! Neil Griggs and Enda Bardell

I believe God’s best gifts are people, not things. Russell Griggs was a valued gift of God to me and to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Not only was Russell a true friend, he was also an encourager, a mentor, a wise counselor and a valuable partner in Kingdom ministry and expansion.
Russell and I met in 1996. My wife and I were ministering in Dominican Republic, when a mutual friend invited us to take a small plane and fly with him to Haiti to meet Russell and a team who were working with Love A Child Ministry. When we arrived, the first person to welcome us was Russell. He was genuinely excited about being in Haiti, but I was just excited that we made it there safely in a small plane. As we were getting to know each other, I shared that I had ministered in many countries, but I had never felt led to Haiti or India. Russell laughed and said with a big smile, well, here you are in Haiti and I was born in India so look forward to going there with you. We never made the trip to India together, but from that day forward Russell and I became close friends and I had the privilege of partnering with this Kingdom Statesman in getting humanitarian aid to many of the neediest countries in the world, as well as in different parts of the US.
On August 28, as my wife and I were driving to the airport for to catch an international flight, we got a call from Becky updating us on Russell and asking us to pray for him. We expected to hear of a miraculous turnaround, as Russell had experienced many times. Instead, we heard that Russell went home to be with the Lord. I imagine some of the first words he heard were these from Matthew 25, “Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food… as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren you did it to Me.”
Becky and family, Russell loved you very much and he left you the most valuable gift of all, a godly legacy. He is resting from his many years of labor and his works follow him. You are those works! We love you and you remain in our thoughts and prayers.
Blessings,
Dr. Tony Cribb

As a Worship leader, Elder, Board President, and treasurer of the Master’s Church in Desoto, Texas for 24 years, I worked with several men who were in the pulpit. But, in all those years, there were only two pastors. One was David Plumbley, who started the church with several of us in 1974.
The other, was Pastor Russell C. Griggs.
I was blessed to have worshipped, learned, and work with Pastor Griggs during our tenure at our church. I say worshipped, because Pastor Griggs was a shepherd who led his congregation into the very presence of our Lord Jesus Christ with a humble spirit. I learned because Pastor Griggs knew the Word of God. He knew how to impart that wisdom and experience into our lives and hearts. I worked with Pastor Griggs in various roles, as he led the congregation to a deeper walk with our Lord.
Over the years, I have shared with others, the many experiences and lessons I learned from my time with Pastor Griggs to bless them and hopefully, impart some measure of spiritual growth.
Pastor Russell Griggs’ legacy will live far beyond his years on this earth, and continue to bless others in very many ways.
Know that I love and miss you Pastor!
Prayers daily for your family and friends, until we meet again.

Russell Griggs will be missed by so many but Heaven rejoices in this faithful son of God, a true general in the faith as a host of angels sing in eternity. Russ is one of the most humble men I ever met who truly is an Ambassador of Christ. His humility brought him many promotions and favor from our Lord. Russ blessed CMM, Christ's Mandate for Missions, with millions of gifts in kind over the last 15 or so years. Russ was so quiet when never taking credit for anything, always giving glory to the Lord. I was always amazed at who he knew and he would rarely mention his myriad of connections unless it was relevant to a particular need in the moment. He is a master builder, and I only wish I had spent more time with him and Becky to learn from their wise and mature hearts. Becky, we so love and honor your pure heart and look forward to serving the Lord as He leads. The Holy Spirit will comfort you with His deep shalom and the family and his many friends during this transition.

A true soldier for Jesus, a laid down life of hard work for kingdom purposes. Pastor Russell loved much and was much loved! Proverbs 4:18 says “The path of the just…shines brighter and brighter until that perfect day is when we go to see Jesus! Take comfort in that dear Rebecca and family! It’s the day of perfection and race for those who are “in Christ” and “Christ in them, the hope of glory”!!! Sending love, hugs, prayers, and try to focus on the many years, your beautiful life together and we’re so thankful to God for them. That helped me a lot!

Pastor Griggs, the name I call him, was a great encourager and advisor to me as I fearfully stepped out to follow God’s calling for Master’s Academy. His vast knowledge of business and ministry supported me and my team as we endeavored to make the school a reality. In every way he was a supportive pastor, board member and parent. I will always be grateful for the words he brought to me from the Lord. Those words served as an encouragement and direction for me during the 25 years the school was open. He was truly a significant blessing to our school and to our family.

Dear Becky and Family,
My husband Tony and I are praying for all of you in the loss of Russell. He was a blessing to many. I was his bookkeeper for almost 30 years but more than that he was a good friend and minister. We shared prayer requests many times and saw the Lord work in miraculous ways for all of us. I remember one day I was very down, and Becky and Russell could sense that something was wrong, they told me they wanted to pray for me. We were standing there praying and I heard him walk away and I thought he was finished with his prayer. He returned minutes later and gave me a wall plaque with the scripture of Jeremiah 29:11. That was a great encouragement to me and has since become my favorite Bible scripture.
I could never call him Russell, I always called him Bro. Griggs because he was a minister, and I didn't feel right just calling him by his first name. He will be missed by many, but he left a lot of wonderful and happy memories for his family and friends and all those around him. He would want all of us to be faithful to God and meet him in Heaven soon.
God Bless,
Sara and Tony Jeffcoat

Dear Becky & Family,
Jeanette & I share our most sincere condolecenses with you at the passing of your beloved Russell. Only the fondest of memories stir deep in our hearts as we realize this great brother in the faith has gone to be forever in the presence of our Lord Jesus & Abba Father; the Holy Spirit witnessing with our spirits. Although we may sorrow some, we certainly do not without great hope and expectation that we will soon see him again with our risen Savior coming to catch us all up together in the air per the scriptures. Jesus did a special work of His abundant grace when he called Russ and sent him forth as a blaze of fire to awaken yet another generation for His glory and purposes. From colleges to streets, from Kings & Queens to the slums of Haiti, from palace to mission outreaches across the globe, by air travel and ships to buses and autos, from the Jesus Movement to the Charismatic Movement, from the Prophetic Movement and onward, from Europe to Canada, from many nations of the world, the impact of that dear brother is well known and especially by those who were directly ministered to or who worked with Him. Such a generous heart and friend whom I dearly miss and longed to work with more often. Only eternity will tell the whole story of the affects Russ had worldwide; even stories we have never heard as he crossed the globe in the power of the Spirit on different assignments. Truly a good and faithful servant………. brother, husband, friend and minister!
I initially met Russ in a tent meeting that he sponsored with evangelical teams from Europe set up in West Columbia in the fall of 1998. The following Sunday I was introduced to Celebration Worship Center. He always showed serious concern for me and my well being as he did with so many, initially providing a place for me to stay then later opportunities that led to a new marriage, new ministry and good provisions. Truly you and He have been used to restore paths for many to walk on. A very difficult time in my life became a huge catalyst for great things thereafter as working with you and Russ at Celebration touched so many lives. From salvations to miracles, healings to special evangelistic revival meetings, we together witnessed the power of our God helping and bringing hope and comfort to so many.
He truly held an office gift to bring others forward in their various calls to service. Later as an appointed Elder under his oversight, I personally witnessed at Celebration his zeal to reach many included fighting the good fight of faith in persevering through many difficult hardships to fulfill the call from our Lord. His daily commitmet provoked me to a deeper consecration as I witnessed firsthand a huge heart of outreach that I learned later was a worldwide ministry. Although a larger than life figure, he was often available to the one that was struggling with a desire to help and heal. His zeal in the Spirit to stir many to move in the gifts of the Spirit and fulfill God’s great commission was only one of so many graces our Lord commissioned him with. As a pastor he showed sincere love for all; those who met him knew he deeply cared for them. As an Apostle, bringing many together and sitting things on a course to be most effective. Working to bring many church leaders together for the greater good, I was privileged to meet many pastors, evangelists, prophets & teachers; leaders whom I’ll never forget and who made my life more full including you.
One cherished memory is the presence of our Lord manifest regularly, and the atmosphere of faith & expectation he and you worked to create by the grace of God in the small building in West Columbia where hungry believers gathered often for healings, teachings, preaching of the Word and glorious worship times. I could write a book of personal experiences that not only occurred in that small place, but has since impacted and continues to impact many especially wherever I walk. I’m sure many have similar stories to tell.
Finally, May the Great Shepherd of the sheep continue to lead and comfort you and your family as you allows Him to comfort you during this season. May you know the strength of going on in Him…….for it is in “Him that we live and move and have our being."

Amongst being a wonderful brother Russ was a reliable dog walker. In our youth there was a monthly dance that Neil and I attended secretly, we told Dad we went dog walking rather it was Russ that did the dog walking while we danced. All was good until Neil won the elimination dance reported in the local rag which Dad usually read. Mother found out and used it as fire starter to save our skins, thanks Russ. Thank you for bringing me to Open Bible Chapel Vancouver where I was saved and will be able to worship with you in Glory when my time comes, I miss you.

The first time I met Russ was a week before marrying his brother William Beverley (Bev) with all of his brothers, wives and family in Vancouver July of 1998. He officiated our wedding with Becky playing the piano and singing for us at Open Bible Chapel where Russ had served as Youth Pastor previously and where Bev had accepted Our Lord and Savior. One of the moments that family still chuckle about is when my 9 year old son who was supposed to walk me down the aisle crumbled into tears saying that he was not giving me away to anyone! There where a few minutes where Becky graciously played on and family scrambled to console our son before I was walked in by my brother in law Mark. For those few minutes Bev did not know quite what to think. I am blessed to have known Russ, loved our prayer times together his comforting voice and knowledge of The Word. He will be sorely missed until we meet again. Jacqui

Dear Becky and family, I send my deep felt condolences to you. I share in the sadness of losing Russell, but I take great joy in the scripture that tells us it is far better to depart and be with Christ. He is in a wonderful place, and we will be there with him soon.I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to not only work with Russell on some ministry projects but to have him as a friend. He faced challenges and disappointments as everyone, but he always stayed upbeat and enjoyed a good laugh or joke even if it was about him. Russell was a great man of God and travelled the globe serving Jesus. I had the privilege of working with him in the US, Dominican Republic and Haiti. He had a great demeanor for working in challenging situations, always remaining calm and believing the best about everyone. We were once surrounded by an armed gang in Cite Soleil, the worst and most dangerous slum in Haiti. These young men had handguns, shotguns and machine guns, and they leveled them at us as they surrounded the vehicle. After a few minutes of conversation with the Haitian driver while holding a gun to his head they took the money he offered, lowered their guns and cleared the road. Back at the hotel as we recounted our experience Russell always the humanitarian said he reckoned those young men were hungry and needed money for food. The rest of us thought they needed ammo for their guns. No one was hurt, and so it became something we could laugh about, those of us in the back who saw troublemakers and Russell up front feeling sorry for them because he thought they might be hungry. He was a giver, a good man and true follower of Jesus.
