Obituary of Margaret Joan Gartman

Margaret Joan Gartman, 82, of Gaston, SC, passed away August 1st, 2022. Born to Dorothy Williams on May 7th, 1940 in Limestone, SC. Margaret is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Padgett; Frank Padgett; her late husband, James Gartman; her brothers, George Mills, Jessie Mills, and Steve Mills; and her grandson, Robert John Shirey.

Margaret leaves behind her children, Teresa (Glenn Sr.) Purvis, Randy (Marlene) Shirey, and Crystal (Austin) Floyd; her sister, Faye (Hank) Newman; her grandchildren, Kyle Shirey, Glenn (Kelly) Purvis Jr., and Gary (Cindi) Purvis; her great grandchildren, Sadie Purvis, Khloe Purvis, Peyton Purvis and Chase Wada; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Margaret Gartman retired from Allied Chemical after 38 years of service. She was a longtime member of Congaree Baptist Church where she was very active before her illness. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, watching sports, and playing bingo. She loved working in her yard and sitting on her porch watching the birds. Margaret was a caring and loving person. When she loved you, you knew you were loved. She never met a stranger and was a joy to all that knew her. Mrs. Margaret will be deeply missed by all her friends and family and her dog Joey. Margaret’s family would like to give special thanks to the team at Jenni-Lynn Assisted Living for their outstanding care.

A memorial service will be held for Margaret Gartman at Congaree Baptist Church, 101 Pine Ridge Dr. West Columbia, SC, on Saturday August 13th, 2022 at 1pm. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
