Obituary of Rebecca S. Barfield

Rebecca S. Barfield, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. She was born October 14, 1938, as the fifth child to the late J.P. and Fannie Brown Shirley of Roebuck, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Laura Denise; her husband, H.E. Barfield; and her siblings, Edna Edwards, Martha Pitts, and James W. Shirley.

Mrs. Barfield is survived by her four children, Eric Barfield (Vickie) of Troy, NC, Ben Barfield (Julie) of Lexington, Susan Netherton of South Congaree, and Kevin Barfield (Julie) of West Columbia; her sister, Margaret Knight of Spartanburg; her nine grandchildren, Matthew Barfield, Nicholas Barfield (Lauren), Courtney Burns, Meredith Green (Chase), Meghan Starnes (Jordan), Walker Barfield, Wesley Barfield, Christopher Netherton (Tameia), Caitlyn Parrish (Patrick), Candy Evert (Scott), Terri Powell (Gregg); and her 16 great-grandchildren.

Rebecca retired from Bankers Trust of Columbia, SC. She was an active member of Congaree Presbyterian Church. She loved flowers and plants, was an avid reader, enjoyed solving word puzzles and taking care of and dressing her poodle, Laddie.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 25 at 11:00 am at Celestial Memorial Gardens, 3111 Delree Street, West Columbia, SC. Visitation will be from 6:30 until 8:30 pm Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Rd, Lexington, SC 29073.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
