Obituary of Kay Dial Daniels
Kay Dial Daniels, 70, of Columbia, left this Earth to dwell in the House of the Lord on July 12, 2022, after a long, brave battle with brain and lung cancer. She was born July 24, 1951, as the fourth child to Boyd and Edna Dial of Spartanburg, S.C. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of more than 30 years, Roger Daniels, of Columbia, her parents, Boyd and Edna (Hadden) Dial, of Spartanburg, and her siblings Barbara Clayton, Larry Dial, and David Dial.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Dial, of Spartanburg, her only child, Katherine Daniels Steward (Andrew) of Elgin, and her greatest sources of pride and joy, her granddaughters Hadden Elizabeth and Hailey Margaret. She is additionally survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, and close friends whom she loved dearly.
Kay was a 1969 graduate of Spartanburg High School. Immediately after high school, she completed her degree in Secretarial Science in 1971 at Spartanburg Technical College. Kay retired from the Department of Natural Resources in December of 2017 after 35 faithful years as an Administrative Assistant. In her spare time, Kay enjoyed traveling, movie going, reading, and spending time with her dearest friends, the “YaYa’s”, and family.
Kay never met a stranger and will always be remembered as one who remembered everyone’s birthday, anniversary, or other special occasions with a card in the mail. She was a longtime member of Beulah Baptist Church in Hopkins, SC before transferring her membership to Shandon Baptist Church of Columbia, SC, where she was an active and devoted member of the Women of the Word Sunday School class.
Kay’s family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to Drs. Terry Day, Joshua Hornig, and Sara Jasper formerly of Hollings Cancer Center at MUSC for their exceptional care during Kay’s treatment. Additionally, they would like to thank Agape Care Hospice for their outstanding care both in home and in their Columbia and Lexington Community Hospice Houses.
A celebration of life service with be held on Saturday, July 16 at 11:00 am, at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday, July 15, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Columbia chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association at 140 Stoneridge Drive #640, Columbia, SC 29210.
