Obituary of Helen Bush

On the evening of June 16, 2022, Helen Cunningham Bush of Lexington, died at the age of 91. She was a resident of Lexington Medical Center Extended Care in the final days of her life.
Born to Maggie Adkins and Joe E. Cunningham in Columbia, SC on June 14, 1931, Helen began school in the Olympia neighborhood where she met her future husband David C. Bush, Jr. in the first grade. They were married in 1949. Together they raised seven children. She was employed as a seamstress in Columbia for many years.

Helen was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed gardening and reading in her spare time. She had an inner strength and determination that kept her going through the hard times. She accepted the responsibility of caring for an invalid son, with the help of family, for the last thirty-five years of his life. Now it is time for her to rest. She was the last of her generation on both sides of the family and looked forward to seeing loved ones waiting on the other side.
 

Helen is survived by daughters Sandra Steppe (Charles) of Ridgeway, Carolyn Addison of West
Columbia, Susan Faust (Joe) of Lexington, Tammy Bush of (Columbia), and son Garry Bush (Rita) of St. Matthews. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grands, 4 great-great-grandchilden and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband David C. Bush, Jr., daughter Patrica, and sons David and Steven; as well as her father, Joe and mother, Maggie; sister Louise C. Bush; and brothers Ernest L., William E., James W., Osrow M., Robert D. and twin Everette J. Cunningham.
 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 9, 2022 at 11:00 am at Thompson's Funeral Home of Lexington at 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC. Reverend Bill Harmon will officiate.
