Obituary of Lyle Michael Bockus
Lyle Michael Bockus, 73, of West Columbia, SC, passed away on May 1, 2022, from a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and related health issues. He is now at peace with his Heavenly Father.
Mr. Bockus was the son of the late Lyle Leonard Bockus of Sackets Harbor, NY, and Hazel Roof Bockus of West Columbia, SC. He is predeceased by his father, and brother Patrick R. Bockus. He is survived by his mother; nephews Christian M. Bockus (Cathy), Anthony D. Bockus, and Jason P. Bockus; great nephews Tony Bockus and Tyler Howe (Holly); great nieces Alixandra Hoskins (Ryan), Savannah Bockus, Erica Shelton (Jaered) and Vada Phillips; sister-in- law Trisha Pizzuti-Bockus (the late Patrick); and numerous cousins.
Mr. Bockus was a member of Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church in West Columbia where he was active in the Lutheran League youth program. After graduating Airport High School in 1966, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Wurtsmith AFB, Michigan. At the end of his service duty, he was honorably discharged.
After the military, Mr. Bockus was employed by industrial companies Carolina Pipe and Concrete, then Mitchell Distributing, until he retired.
He collected baseball cards in his youth and became quite the sports enthusiast. He followed most sports and was a true fan of the USC Gamecocks and Atlanta Braves. He also enjoyed reading, particularly, NY Times best sellers and "who done it" mysteries.
He enjoyed listening to music from his era and, with his impressive collection of 45s and 33s, he kept the music of the late 60s and 70s alive.
Graveside services for Mr. Bockus will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, 3011 Leaphart Rd, West Columbia. Officiating will be Rev. Gina D. Metze, Pastor of Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church.
Thompson's Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Rd, Lexington, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, or a charity of choice.
