Obituary of Samuel M. Wingard

Samuel M. “Mickey” Wingard, age 78, passed away Sunday, May 1st surrounded by his girls. He was the son of the late James M. and Thelma S. Wingard. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, May 5th, 2022 at Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington, with burial following at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.

Mickey was a graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School and retired from the Columbia Fire Department after 25 years of service in 1993. Mickey also served in the South Carolina National Guard and was member and ordained Deacon at Green Hill Baptist Church in West Columbia.

He is survived by his wife, Ann B. Wingard of 52 years; a daughter, Cindy W. Nicholson; granddaughter, Anna Nicholson; and his grand-dog, NiNi. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Sara Wingard; nephew, Reverend Chris Wingard; a niece, Allyson Willis (Mike); two great nieces; and two great nephews.

He was predeceased by his twin brother, Reverend Doctor Michael G. Wingard and a son-in-law, Dene Nicholson Jr.

Mickey loved and supported his three girls endlessly. One of our birds has fallen from the nest and we will forever be changed because of it.
