Obituary of John Greeley Harkins, Jr.

John Greeley Harkins, Jr., age 73, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on Saturday, April 2, 2022, with his daughter by his side.

Born in Union, SC, he was the son of the late Edwina Davis Morrow and her late husband Garrison, and the late John Greeley Harkins, Sr. John earned an Associate degree in Engineering and was retired from Electrical Controller and Manufacturing in St. Matthews, SC, where he enjoyed working with his colleagues who were also friends.

John had a huge, loving heart and would give selflessly to anyone in need. He was an amazing handy man and could fix almost anything. He was a great hunter, an avid fisherman, and a die-hard Clemson fan. John was a proud Vietnam Veteran and loved his country.

John is survived by his daughter, Nicole Huffman (husband Joey), Stepdaughters Melanie Scarbrough and Stacy Forsyth (husband Jimmy), Stepson Christopher Pike (Missy), his beautiful grandchildren, a precious great grandbaby, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased in death by his wife, Pamela (Pam) Hadaway Harkins.

A visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday, April 10, 2022, from 4p.m. to 6p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home at 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. A chapel service at Thompson Funeral Home is scheduled for Monday, April 11th at 11a.m., and a graveside interment will follow at 1p.m. at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229.

Memorial donations may be made to the Army Emergency Relief organization who provides a direct path to supporting soldiers and their families, or to the Military with PTSD organization dedicated to helping military and veteran families.
